Class Descriptions

Ballet
Ballet is the foundation to dance. Most all accomplished dancers, no matter what style, have strong foundational training in ballet. Ballet improves techniques that are used in every other style of dance. It helps the dancers understand the way the body moves and needs to move, as well as builds strength, posture, flexibility, and most importantly self-discipline.
We strongly encourage all of our dancers to enroll in at least one ballet class.

Jazz/Contemporary
Jazz Contemporary is faster paced movement of dance which can range from the classic East Coast jazzes to new age industry-styled jazz. It requires technique and flexibility as well as being able to execute stylized choreography and musicality.

Lyrical/Contemporary
Lyrical Contemporary is a slower paced class that focuses on the dancer’s ability to express an emotion through their dance. Choreography is story-based working with the dancer on getting a feeling, concept and thought to their audience through serious technique and dance movements.

Hip Hop
Hip hop is a fast high-energy class that will continuously vary in styles! It is a choreography and performance-based class that will teach you modern moves and isolation of the body, while helping you with your musicality and rhythm.

Jazz Funk
Jazz Funk is a jazzy version of hip hop. It can still be hard hitting with a bit more technique and jazz aspects than a regular hip hop class. It is a high energy class, with a lot of emphasis on performing and having a great time.

Technique
Our technique classes are instructed by highly qualified dancers who will focus on all aspects of technique needed to be a skilled dancer. Technique is more then necessary for a dancer to truly be at their best; and our teachers will get their students working hard in these hour-and-a-half long classes. Teachers will instruct you in ways to accomplish all the kicks, turns, leaps and tricks you need and want to know to further your dance career.
Just like ballet, technique is strongly encouraged for our dancers, especially if they desire to continue to advance through the levels of dance anywhere.

Musical Theater
Musical Theater Jazz will focus on style of Jazz seen and well-known in all the classic Broadway shows. Technique will be used but this class is highly stylized with a great focus on choreography and performance. This is great class for drama/ musical theater lovers who want to continue their Broadway dreams or learn how to perform a piece through dance-acting!

Liturgical
Liturgical dance is open to adults and children alike. It is a style geared towards an expression of worship which will also help you in the aspect of choreography within the church setting. This style will be geared towards how to worshipfully express oneself through technique and dance. It will also help those instructors who may teach dance at church to develop ideas and concepts to bring into the performing arts of your congregation.

Tumbling
Tumbling will be taught by a highly-qualified instructor at all levels. This class will teach the dancer how to do basic and advanced gymnastic tricks and flips. It will help with flexibility and strength as well as tweaking any aspiring cheerleaders or gymnasts.

Tap
Tap is fast-moving and rigorous exercise. Students will be trained in all the basics of tap and tap technique…old school! This class will emphasize rhythms and musicality.

Barre/Pilates
Barre classes are the latest craze in the workout world. The ballet barre utilizes all the muscles in the body so that you can begin to tone everywhere. The barre also helps in flexibility, posture, and balance. After 30-45 minutes at the barre, the class continues with Pilates/floor barre to help strengthen the abdominal and back muscles. All moves can be easily modified to fit your comfort level.

Aerobic Dance
Inspired by the hit cardio work out ZUMBA, aerobic dance will be a high energy class to fun upbeat music. You will sweat and burn calories through basic heart pumping moves of dance and aerobics combined!

Flexibility
This class will focus solely on gaining flexibility. It is a calm class that stresses the importance of flexibility and will teach you stretches you can take home. Unlike yoga, there will be no emphasis on strength or meditation but rather giving you the stretches that dancers use in warm ups to loosen their ligaments and warm their muscles.

*Our classes are choreography-based classes — meaning across the floor and technique are less emphasized so the dancers will experience what real “master classes” are. Because our classes focus on choreography, we expect every dancer who signs up for Jazz or Lyrical too also sign up for one technique class. Technique classes are half price for the dancer who is also taking a jazz or contemporary class as well.
